Position Summary
Provides leadership for the development of strategic plans and analyses to support strategy decisions for assigned areas of focus. Assists executive and senior management in the development of strategic plans for the Erie Insurance Group. Leads the development of financial forecasts and develops and implement processes to support the analysis of forecasts to actual results and development of actions to achieve the forecasts.
- Candidates not local to the Erie, PA area may be given consideration to work remote, with expected travel to the Erie Corporate Office.
- Candidates with financial planning experience in the insurance industry are preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
- Leads the planning and budgeting process in order to provide financial forecasts to senior leadership and the Board.
- Leads the monthly internal financial reporting and quarterly Board reporting cycles. Oversees preparation of senior leader and Board level presentation materials. Interprets and delivers financial results to senior leaders.
- Leads the development of financial and operating statistics to create and drive consistent performance accountability metrics and standards.
- Responsible for continuous improvement and development of standard finance processes.
- Provides strategic and financial leadership in the development of product profitability, financials, improvement programs, sales initiatives and/or agent incentive compensation programs.
- Oversees financial evaluation of project investment through techniques such as Net Present Value and Payback Period. Supports and oversees the Benefits Realization process for the organization.
- Develops and leads business teams through operating cycles, including the connection to the strategic planning process, quarterly reviews of forecasts, and compares business team expenses to actual results.
- Participates in discussion and decision-making processes for technology, business, and/or human resources investments so as to ensure that business planning and purpose are considered in all key decisions.
- Ensures that analysis and plans are developed utilizing consistent, state-of-the-art techniques, tools, and technologies and in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
- Analyzes and reports external economic trends, including effects of governmental legislation, and appraises financial effect on the company.
- Review reports and schedules prepared by direct reports for completeness and accuracy.

Competencies
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or related field, required. Eight years’ experience in financial analysis, corporate and strategic planning, financial reporting, financial statement auditing, or actuarial required. In depth knowledge of financial analysis, strategic and operational planning, and/or financial modeling required. Demonstrated analytical and forecasting experience in income statement and balance sheet areas required. Strong background in automated information systems, financial reporting requirements and/or modeling tools required. Working knowledge of GAAP required. People management experience preferred. MBA or CPA strongly preferred. Experience with Hyperion strongly preferred. Experience in an insurance company strongly preferred. The position requires the incumbent to work weekends and restrict vacation during peak periods.
