Position Summary
Safeguards ERIE’s Employees, visitors and physical assets from hazards or events that can impact business continuity. Provides a constant visible presence of authority to enforce safety and security. Preserves order and acts to enforce department and company policies pertaining to physical safety and security of Employees, visitors and physical assets.
Acts and communicates with honesty, integrity and trust given the sensitive nature of the position.
- There are three (3) positions available.
- This position is based in-person out of our Corporate Office in Erie, PA.
- This position operates on all three rotating shifts and qualifies for shift-dependent pay differential(s).
- Candidates with an already active PA License (SP4–129) To Carry Firearms, or immediate eligibility to acquire (21 years of age or older) highly preferred.
- As part of the interview process for this position, candidates will participate in a physical fitness assessment designed to evaluate their ability to perform essential physical tasks related to the role. This assessment is not pass/fail but provides additional insights into each candidates' readiness for the positions physical demands. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed. Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides security protection service to ERIE Employees, visitors and physical assets. Immediately responds to unusual or emergency situations implementing established protocols and when necessary using the appropriate escalation of force, consistent with training and applicable department procedures. Understands, agrees to, and abides by security operations procedures, protocols and policies.
- Acts as ERIE's first designated responder.
- Assists the section through monitoring for ongoing threats at the Home Office and ERIE‑sponsored events. Conducts investigations and composes accurate reports on observations and information gathered. Strong situational awareness skills must be utilized at all times.
- Occasionally provides executive protection (EP) services to attendees of ERIE functions on the Home Office campus and at ERIE-sponsored events.
- Enforces ERIE’s parking guidelines including issuing violation tickets. Provides vehicle assists to ERIE employees and visitors. Closely monitors two-way radio communications to see that company radio users are following applicable department procedures.
- Provides support for Human Resources (HR) by following established protocols with respect to suspected alcohol/drug use and involuntary terminations.
- Monitors entrances and exits; acts to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; controls entrances, performs atrium desk responsibilities, the movement of people and vehicles, and parking. Implements in an orderly manner established crisis event response plans, following all policies and procedures These include but are not limited to: all fire alarms, security breaches, suspicious mailings/items found, criminal offenses, injuries and accidents or other suspicious activity that could be criminal in nature or emergency events. Reports any infractions to the security operations management, following established reporting methods.
- May be required to work with other established local security/medical/police/fire departments to mitigate unusual or concerning events as appropriate. Building a professional relationship and maintaining the integrity of the Security function within the Company and the Community is expected.
- Provides timely and complete documentation pertaining to security functions. Prepares logs and reports as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
Additional Experience
- Experience within law enforcement and/or military service or past security preferred.
- Reid Technique (Interviewing Skills) preferred.
- Advanced understanding of digital and analog signaling protocols, communications, information systems and networks preferred.
- Familiarity with and understanding of security and fire/life safety policies, codes and practices is required.
- Extensive knowledge of Outlook, Windows, spreadsheet and report writing software preferred.
- Some overnight travel both domestic and out of country is required.
- This position requires the incumbent to be on call 24/7, and restrict vacations during peak periods.
- This position requires the ability to work a rotating shift for a 24/7/365 on all three shifts including weekends & holidays.
- Acceptance of overtime is required.
Designations and/or Licenses
- Certified in OC Spray preferred.
- The Pennsylvania Lethal Weapons Training Act (PA Act 235) and the successful completion of ERIE’s Armed Security Officer Course (ASOC) required.
- A completion time of 18 months from the start date is allotted. If the incumbent does not successfully complete the ASOC within the allotted time, then employment will be terminated.
- Eligibility for PA License (SP4–129) To Carry Firearms, required.
- Successful completion of the NRA’s basic RSO program is required followed up by advanced RSO certifications up to and including Master Range Safety Officer certification.
- Completion of the Certified Protection Officer (CPO) certification and ASIS Executive Protection preferred.
- Pennsylvania certified Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) required within 18 months of hiring date. If the incumbent does not successfully complete the program within the allotted time, then employment will be terminated.
- First Aid, CPR, AED required within 3 months of hiring date. If the incumbent does not successfully complete the program within the allotted time, then employment will be terminated.
- EMT certification preferred.
- DHS Active Shooter Preparedness program preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and meets the requirements of ERIE’s Fleet Safety Program.
