Position Summary
Leads the corporate strategy for claims operations, both field and corporate functions, including claims policies, programs and procedures, ensuring adherence to the corporate philosophy and service standards. Oversees the measurement of the success of company claims operations, including productivity, loss and expense activity, and customer service delivery.
There are two positions available.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
- Provides leadership and direction for multiple departments. Builds and leads a high performing team, including internal and external resources, to deliver results. Drives decisions reflective of the divisional strategy. Establishes performance standards. Evaluates the organizational structure and performance of the division to ensure that it is efficiently planned, staffed and trained for maximum productivity and service delivery. Identifies pipeline of succession candidates for all functions within the division.
- Responsible for the financial management of the division, including cost-control and budgeting activities. Analyzes financial reports and related trends and data, to identify ways to increase revenue and decrease costs. Works with staff to prepare and meet operating budgets and create and implement programs to improve operational efficiency. Oversees key contract negotiations with vendors. Ensures commitments, pricing and deliverable are met.
- Participates with executive management and the senior leadership team in the development and execution of the divisional strategy. Collaborates with division and cross-enterprise leadership to ensure that divisional and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met, aligned with corporate strategy, and implemented within the context of ERIE’s vision and mission.
- Oversees the prioritization of major, discretionary technology initiatives. Ensures the teams are utilizing state of the art techniques, tools and technology to perform efficient, timely and effective analyses. Encourages and promotes innovation.
- Participates with executive management in developing company-wide policies and operating policies related to the division. Ensures that all company and division policies, plans, and objectives drive compliance with relevant state and federal regulations, are clearly understood, and effectively applied across the division.
- Ensures executive leadership is fully informed of the state of the division and any important internal and external influencing factors. Manages internal and external communication as necessary to relay significant change, trends, or issues. Delivers financial and operational analysis to executive management and the Board of Directors.

- Acts as Executive Sponsor for major company initiatives as required. Participates in Agent task forces as applicable. Serves on trade group committees as applicable. Represents ERIE within the industry, the community and among Agents.
- Collaborates with peers across the organization to maintain an understanding of the business and all business lines. Identifies underlying variables and risks that may impact the division. Participates with peers in identifying and assessing strategies, opportunities and challenges for the organization.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Twelve years of experience in the insurance industry required.
Additional Experience
- Six years of management experience required.
- Travel, including overnight stays, required.
Designations and/or Licenses
- CPCU, CLU, and or CIC designation preferred.
