Position Summary
Assists with the development and directs the implementation of corporate tax policies, practices and plans in order to meet corporate goals as established by senior management and in compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations. Directs and manages finance related operations which include accounting for income taxes, internal controls over tax functions, financial reporting of tax information, etc. Provides thought leadership and guidance regarding internal policies, procedures and process improvements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
- Maintains and applies a current knowledge of GAAP and SAP accounting statutes and regulations related to federal income taxes applicable to all ERIE companies. Supervises internal and external reporting, and maintains and demonstrates strong knowledge of applicable principles and regulations and required deadlines.
- Responsible for the review, accuracy and approval of all data requested from or produced by the section to ensure accuracy and fulfillment of the needs of the requestor and compliance with applicable policies, principles and regulations. Recommends modifications to current policies and practices to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Leads and manages tax related projects, information requests, system upgrades and process efficiency initiatives. Delegates related tasks based on timing and available skill sets. Oversees progress through implementation and provides guidance where appropriate.
- Provides improvement and/or solution recommendations, gains team collaboration, develops business cases and works with internal resources and potential external vendors to implement chosen solutions.
- Reviews all federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns, extensions and estimated tax payments, including property tax returns and sales and use tax returns.
- Administers federal, state and local tax audits. Completes special projects as required.
- Reviews, assesses and makes recommendations with regard to current tax accounting policies, procedures and practices. Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of related policies, procedures and practices.
- Leads comprehensive accounting or tax projects utilizing project management skills and enlisting the proper resources.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field, required.
- CPA designation or Master’s degree required.
Additional Experience
- Eight years’ experience with a Big 4 accounting firm and/or a major property/casualty or life insurance company including a current, in-depth knowledge of the federal income tax code, regulations, and rulings as they pertain to property and casualty and life insurance companies required.
- Current in-depth knowledge of SAP and GAAP rules and regulations including disclosure requirements required.
