Position Summary

Provides strategic leadership and direction through subordinate team of IT leadership. Accountable for the performance and results of multiple related information technology (IT) disciplines/function.



In alignment with the company strategy (D25), Information Technology has recently reorganized to provide focus for the product and sales transformation which will require the modernization of Erie’s core legacy technology.  The undertaking will necessitate re-platforming each of our P&C products onto the new solution, migrating the previous business off and finally sunsetting the legacy technology. Based on the competitiveness of the industry, acceleration will be a strategic lever and while substantial, the transformation is the first foundational step to set the stage for Erie to take advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.

Designs, develops, modifies, adapts and implements short-and long-term solutions to information technology (IT) needs. Defines functional strategy, ensuring alignment to overall division and corporate strategies. Drives change(s) necessary to achieve goals and objectives.

Controls resource and policy formation in functional areas of responsibility. Decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives. Work managed is not necessarily routine, typically new, not proven or transformational in nature.

Responsible for and manages to the overall area budget, ensuring that performance objectives are met at the lowest cost. Continually monitors expenses throughout the year and revises expectations as needed.

Manages relationship with business leaders at all levels, Agents and Policyholders. Could serve as the primary relationship manager for multiple vendors.

Ensures responsible functions quality and service level standards are on par with division and corporate standards.

Keeps abreast of emerging trends, disciplines and technologies. Uncovers and implements strategies to compete and remain competitive in the industry.

Prepares Executive and Board level reports. Participates in C-level strategy sessions as necessary. Prepares reports and participates in Agent and Branch forums as necessary.

Bachelor's degree, or four-year related experience required. Advanced degree preferred. Prior supervisory or leadership experience required. In-depth knowledge of related IT disciplines required. Ten years’ experience in related IT function or ten years business experience and successful completion of ERIE's IT Leader Program required. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database software required. Completion of relevant designations or training preferred.
