Position Summary

Designs, constructs, tests, and maintains data management systems of moderate complexity used for reporting, analysis, and research. Supports ERIE’s software developers, database architects, analysts, and data scientists on data initiatives and ensures optimal data delivery consistently throughout ongoing projects.
- This position is based in-person out of our Westport Office in Millcreek (Erie, PA)
- The hiring team will consider candidates for Data Engineer or Senior Data Engineer. Level of position offered will be based upon the depth and breadth of selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
- 3-4 years of professional experience in the items below highly preferred
What You'll Do:
- Design, develop, and optimize data ingestion, pipelines, and databases following best practices
- Ensure that date is accessible, reliable and optimized for stakeholder analysis and reporting
- Integrate internal and external data sources to centralize repositories
- Design repeatable processes that will cleanse and transform data into useful insights to generate positive business outcomes
- Work on agile deliver teams that release production ready data products for Commercial Lines Product team
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience working with property and casualty insurance information
- Experience with the following tools:
- Ingestion: AWS Glue, Informatica ETL, Python, SQL
- Data Storage: Glacier, S3, Redshift, Snowflake
- Data Processing: Athena, Snowflake, Python
- Data Analysis & Visualization: SAS, QLIK
- Familiarity with:
- Data orchestration
- Star schema
- Security, Privacy, and regulations
- Code repositories in Github
- Data governance including measured data quality, critical data elements, business glossaries, data lineage, etc.
- Working within an agile framework using JIRA
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identifies, designs, and implements internal process improvements including automating manual data acquisition and optimizing data delivery.
- Integrates new data management technologies into existing data structures.
- Develops set processes of moderate complexity to prepare data for analysis, predictive modeling, and research.
- Develops moderately complex programs to extract and manipulate analytical and research data. Includes data from both internal and external sources.
- Creates tools for data team members that assist them in research and analysis.
- Works with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
- Collaborates closely with business and IT partners to ensure data management technologies are designed and implemented as intended.
- Completes special projects as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field plus one year related experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field plus two years’ related experience; or
- Associate’s degree in technical field, plus four years’ related experience; or
- High school diploma plus six years’ related experience, required.
