Position Summary

Manages activities of assigned litigation specialists. Actively supports and promotes company policies and procedures including projects, presentations, and collaboration with other offices and leaders.

 

  • The ideal candidate can live and will report and work in the nearest branch, Roanoke, VA , Richmond, VA,  Raleigh, NC & Charlotte, NC.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
  • Monitors utilization of Outside Counsel Guidelines by defense counsel. Assist in managing litigation expenses and ensure that defense counsel adheres to ERIE's billing guidelines.
  • Reviews claims correspondence and maintains a working knowledge of files and reserves as necessary. Counsel claims personnel on further activity.
  • Conducts research to resolve coverage or unusual questions.
  • Assists in evaluating and handling suits.
  • Responds to complaints and inquiries.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of claim handling or related experience required; or
  • Associate degree and 8 years of claim handling or related experience required; or
  • High school diploma or GED and 10 years claims handling or related experience required.


Additional Experience 

  • Strong knowledge of claims law, court structure, legal procedures, judicial proceedings and litigation claim handling best practices required.
  • Strong knowledge of tort/contract law and insurance coverage required. 
  • Overnight travel occasionally required.


Designations and/or Licenses 

  • Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Senior Claim's Law Associate (SCLA), or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations preferred. 
  • Valid driver's license required.
